Who is diode laser not suitable for?

• A cold sore or other infection, an open wound, burn, marked irritation or inflamed lesions in the area: no treatment until the skin has recovered.
• Recent sunburn, sunbed use, a deep tan or a noticeable recent change in skin colour: a tan can increase the risk of burns and discolouration, so the treatment is postponed.
• Medication that increases sensitivity to light, such as some antibiotics, or a condition involving light sensitivity: this is assessed based on the medication. Never stop your medication on your own.
• Active eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis lesions, a marked rosacea flare-up or a seriously damaged skin barrier in the area: the laser is not used over active lesions.
• Changing moles, dark spots of unknown cause, wounds that will not close or suspicious lesions in the area: see a dermatologist first; the laser is never applied directly over moles.
• Pregnancy: as there is not enough data on the safety of diode laser hair removal during pregnancy, postponing until after birth is the most cautious approach.
• White, grey, blond or very light hair usually does not respond to diode laser, and very fine, light hair may not give the expected result. Darker skin is not a barrier on its own; settings are chosen carefully for very dark or tanned skin.
• Loss of sensation in the area, or an uncontrolled or serious health condition: a doctor's assessment may be needed first.
