Who are facials not suitable for?

In the cases below the facial is postponed or adapted to your skin. If any of them applies to you, let us know before your appointment.

• A cold sore, inflamed or infected wounds, or a bacterial or fungal skin infection: no treatment on that area until it has cleared.
• An active eczema flare-up, allergic contact dermatitis, or intense redness, burning or itching: peels, steam, acids and firm massage can make irritation worse, so we wait until the skin calms down.
• An active rosacea flare-up. Rosacea does not rule out facials, but we avoid hot steam, firm massage, scrubbing and strong acids and adapt the treatment to your skin.
• Sunburn, open wounds, scabbing, or skin that has not yet recovered from waxing, laser or a peel
• Painful, deep, inflamed or cystic acne: no heavy squeezing, harsh peels or aggressive extractions. Acne does not rule out facials; gentle methods and suitable products can be used.
• A damaged skin barrier: burning even when washing, constant redness or tightness, or reactions to many cosmetics. Peels, steam and strong actives may be postponed.
• A recent laser treatment, medium or deep chemical peel, or microneedling: no new treatment until the skin has fully recovered; the waiting time depends on the previous treatment.
• Oral isotretinoin, prescriptions that sensitise or peel the skin, or immunosuppressants: not every facial is ruled out, but a doctor's assessment may be needed before strong peels or microneedling.
• A known allergy to ingredients in the products used, serious swelling, itching or redness after cosmetics in the past, or a rash of unknown cause
• Pregnancy: a gentle classic facial is not always ruled out, but some active ingredients, chemical peels and device-based treatments may not be suitable. Talk to your doctor if needed.

Who is the spot facial not suitable for?

• An active cold sore, a bacterial or fungal skin infection, open wounds or inflamed lesions: the treatment waits until the skin has recovered.
• An active eczema, dermatitis or rosacea flare-up, or intense redness, burning or itching on the face: acids, peels and strong actives can increase irritation, so we wait for the skin to calm down.
• A damaged skin barrier (very dry, peeling, cracked skin or skin that stings with cosmetics), or a recent aggressive peel or laser treatment that has not yet settled. Supporting the skin barrier comes first.
• Sunburn or ongoing redness or sensitivity after sun exposure: no treatment until the skin has fully recovered.
• New or fast-growing spots, moles that change shape, colour or borders, dark marks that bleed or will not go away, or unexplained uneven discolouration: not every dark spot is simple pigmentation, so see a dermatologist first.
• Prescriptions such as isotretinoin that sensitise the skin, increase sun sensitivity or cause peeling: a doctor's assessment may be needed depending on the treatment. Not every medication rules out every spot facial.
• Pregnancy: spot facials are not ruled out completely, but products with hydroquinone or retinoids are not used and strong chemical peels are avoided. Product choice should be discussed with your healthcare provider.
• Dark marks or darkening after previous laser or peel treatments, or skin that marks easily: aggressive treatments are avoided and the treatment is chosen for your skin type and the cause of the spots.
